About Us
My Name is Mike Jones and I’m the founder and Director of MJ First Aid Training as well as the author and owner of the copyright to the Canine First Responder™ Program and I’m currently owned by two dogs, Barney the 12 year old Labrador and Milo the any bodies guess Collie Cross as he came to us from rescue so we don’t really know his age.
I have been in the First Aid Industry teaching First Aid and CPR as it used to be called, now called Primary and Secondary Care, since March of 1998 when I first qualified as an Instructor in Florida, USA, and I have to thank my Course Directors Colin and Richard, “Thanks Guys,” I have never looked back since. |
My primary mission was teaching The Medic First Aid Course through the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) to divers and people training to be professionals within the Diving Industry to meet certification requirements but we were limited to teaching divers so on return to the UK I continued my professional development by training to be an Instructor for Workplace First Aid Requirements.
In 2002 PADI Launched their own First Aid Training Division aptly named “Emergency First Response” or EFR and launched their courses so that we could now teach to all sectors of the public but they also included Oxygen Provider Training and AED Training which previously had been separate courses taught through other agencies such as DAN, the Divers Alert Network. Seeing the potential my good friend and colleague, Andy Purkis and I signed up for the Instructor Crossover Course Straight away and of course we passed with flying colours and let loose on an unsuspecting public.
After nearly eight years of working for others I decided it was time to be my own boss on my own terms, so in January of 2006 MJ First Aid Training found its official home at the ISIS Business Centre in Wednesbury, West Midlands and we have been there ever since and although I didn’t know it at the time ISIS would go on to have a special meaning later on.
ISIS was an Egyptian Goddess who, according to the book of the Dead was goddess of life to all things new which is interesting as most of the life breathed into the Canine First Responder™ Course was at the office, from research to writing; many hours were spent there, slaving over a very hot computer and on reflection, it’s no wonder I’m bald.
In March of 2006 we were granted HSE First Aid at Work Teaching Facility status by Emergency First Response and became Training Centre 35628 sanctioned to deliver HSE workplace courses.
I also hold many qualifications up to FdSc level to work with dogs and these are covered in depth elsewhere so I won’t bore you with them here or with my professional affiliations so if you are beginning to ask yourself what qualifies this guy to teach me dog first aid, well now you know.
